NHL: New York Islanders - Boston Bruins
- Title : NHL: New York Islanders - Boston Bruins
This is going to be a close game but one which the Bruins run away with at the end of the day. Tuukka Rask is going to blank the Islanders' offense with the help of an improving defense. Additionally, the Bruins will find scoring throughout their lineup whether it is David Krejci or Sean Kuraly or the top-line scorers like Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron. Bruins will return to their winning ways and control this game
Boston Bruins and New York Islanders are two teams that play defense-first hockey and rely on structure to give them an opportunity to win.
It’s only been two games but we’ve already seen the best and worst versions of the New York Islanders. In their season-opening win the Isles were smothering, structured and clinical en route to a sweatless 4-0 win. Two days later the Isles were frantic, sloppy and wasteful en route to a 5-0 loss.
Boston Bruins went 1-0-1 in their two-game set with the New Jersey Devils. Hockey’s a sport driven by variance, so the Devils hanging with the B’s shouldn’t be a huge shocker, but it was notable that the Bruins have yet to score at 5-on-5. Part of that can be chalked up to Mackenzie Blackwood’s goaltending performance for New Jersey, but Boston didn’t really generate a ton of scoring chances, either.
This defensive-minded approach sets us up with some great value on the under, which is 4-0 in games between these two teams so far this year. Boston’s is still looking to get their first even-strength goal on the year, so it is unlikely that they explode for a big number. Their goaltending tandem of Rask and Halak has been excellent which should present challenges for the Islanders to score. Take the under, as each team will play a structured defensive game from start to finish.
