Defending champion FC Bayern started the 2020/21 Champions League season with a 4-0 win against Atletico Madrid and moved up to the top of the table in Group A. Against occasionally defensive Colchoneros, the FCB impressed in particular with their enthusiasm for playing and being cool on the offensive.
Bayern coach Hans-Dieter Flick was forced to turn once after the comparison to 4-1 at Arminia Bielefeld. A positive corona test was measured at Gnabry on Tuesday and he went into quarantine. In another test on Wednesday there were no further positive results in the team. Kimmich became a father for the second time on Wednesday night.
Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone rotated five times compared to the 2-0 at Celta Vigo: Instead of Hermoso, Manuel Sanchez, Torreira, Lemar and Diego Costa (musky problems), Felipe, Renan Lodi, Herrera, Carrasco and Joao Felix develop. The vulnerable Saul Niguez was missing renewed.
Coman excels as a marksman and assistant
In the opening minutes of Atletico, the Munich team was under pressure early on. Suarez narrowly missed early after a cross from Renan Lodi (3rd). But Bayern have to feel better quickly, Lewandowski awarded the first person by volleyball (7th). Even if the Colchoneros lurked again and again for a fast switching game - the German record champions got a better grip on the game with lost playing time. Süle hit the post after a corner kick (15th). Every now and then, however, the Madrilenians put pinpricks: After preliminary work by Carrasco, Suarez came quite freely to the shot, but forgave in his own right right (27th).
Almost in direct return, Munich took the lead. After a blocked Goretzka shot, Kimmich ensured that FCB stayed on the ball and crossed wonderfully to Coman, who turned Oblak past Oblak in the six-yard area (28th). The superiority of the Flick-Elf was now greater, offensive Atletico actions rare. Before the break, the Munich team promptly increased the lead: Coman skillfully served Goretzka half right, who made it 2-0 with a full shot (41st). Atletico reacted to Bayern's effectiveness even before the break with exaggerated severity. Renan Lodi, Koke and Herrara received yellow cards within four minutes.
Tolisso and Coman meet worth seeing
After the break, the Simeone-Elf presented themselves a little more offensive and was supposedly rewarded early: Joao Felix scored from ten meters, but because Suarez was offside in the line of fire, the goal did not count for a brief consultation of the referee team (47 .). After a few minutes, in which almost an open exchange of blows became apparent, as the Bavarians now had large spaces, the Munich team became more dominant again. Müller missed with a volley decrease (60th), on the other side Atletico played an excess situation badly (64th).
Shortly afterwards, the preliminary decision in favor of Munich was made: After a free kick on the left corner of the penalty area, Tolisso shot from 23 meters and hit the corner well worth seeing (66th). But that's not all, because after a dream pass from Müller, Coman skillfully beat Felipe on the edge of the box and overcame Oblak to score his second goal of the evening to make it 4-0 (72nd).
Bayern are challenged on Saturday (3:30 p.m.) at home in the Bundesliga against Eintracht Frankfurt, Atletico will also receive Real Betis on Saturday (9:00 p.m.). Both teams will continue in the Champions League next Tuesday. The Munich team will be at Lokomotiv Moscow at 6:55 p.m., Madrid will receive RB Salzburg at 9 p.m.
