RB Leipzig got off to a great start in the new Champions League season: The Saxons won their home game against underdog Basaksehir well deserved 2-0. Angelino, towering before the break, laid the foundation stone.

Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann rebuilt his team to three positions compared to the 2-0 win at FC Augsburg: Orban, Kampl and Poulsen started for Klostermann (surgery on the left knee), Adams and Henrichs (both on the bench).

Basakhsehir coach Okan Buruk only made one change after the first win of the season, a 2-0 win at Trabzonspor: Crivelli started in the front line for former Hoffenheim attacker Ba, who was only intended as a reservist.
RB starts like the fire department

The first 45 minutes of the Leipzig Champions League belonged almost entirely to a Spaniard who was only 1.71 meters tall. Angelino played big - and almost marked a hat trick. But one after the other: RB dominated the first half and Basaksehir could hardly get hold of it on the offensive. After four minutes, Angelino's direct acceptance via Junior Caicara landed at keeper Günok, who was lucky enough to defuse the shot (4th). Two minutes later, the Turkish goalkeeper parried against Upamecano.
Crivelli almost takes the lead

After a rare counterattack, Basaksehir almost took the lead, but Upamecano saved from Crivelli (9th) in dire need. After a quarter of an hour the spell was broken: Angelino took a high ball from Kampl like a dream, turned on his own axis and slammed the play device into the right corner (16th). Four turns of the pointer later, the Spaniard, who had already scored in the last two Bundesliga games against Schalke and Augsburg, increased: After Poulsen won the ball, Nkunku found teammate Angelino, who made it 2-0 against the direction of Günok.
Rough phase before the change

Basaksehir didn't get a lot of air to breathe, and to make matters worse, ex-Schalke Caicara had to be carried off the pitch - ex-Hamburg Özcan replaced him (30th). After a corner from Nkunku, Angelino almost succeeded in the hat trick, but his direct acceptance rushed to the outside net (31st). As a result, the Saxons left more ball and turf to the guests, but Basaksehir didn't know what to do with it. Instead, before the break, Leipzig's Nkunku and Upamecano as well as Basaksehir's Rafael picked up yellow in a rougher phase within three minutes (40th, 41st, 43rd).

Great luck for Upamecano

After the break, Nagelsmann made an early decision to make a move in terms of load management: Hwang took over for Forsberg immediately after the restart, a little later Adams also replaced Kampl (58.) Joker Hwang appeared again and again, but mostly made the wrong decision - Nagelsmann also shook his head several times at the edge of the page. So also in minute 62, when Upamecano was very lucky not to fly off the pitch for a clear yellow-worthy boarding. Nagelsmann had to react and brought his compatriot Konaté for the French.

On the other hand, guest coach Buruk increased the risk and brought with Ba a second attacker, who was used in midfield (67th). Basaksehir simply lacked a plan to seriously endanger the Leipziger Tor. So the last quarter of an hour babbled on before the Leipzig opener 2-0 victory was wrapped up.
