Cheeky Troyes make PSG sweat - double punch is enough to win

  • Title : Cheeky Troyes make PSG sweat - double punch is enough to win
Date: 08 Aug 2021

Summary:

The reigning champions in France's Ligue 1 are called Lille OSC. It's logical that Paris Saint-Germain is on a mission - which started with a 2-1 win in Troyes that evening.

Details:

Mauricio Pochettino had to do without new signing Sergio Ramos, who did not get fit in time, at the start of the season, and Neymar, Verratti, Donnarumma and di Maria are still behind. Mbappé was in the starting line-up for upstart Troyes, as were the two Germans Kehrer and Draxler.

The newcomer started cheekily and took the lead with the first dangerous push. If Kehrer was able to save a corner against Touzghar in the penalty area with a flying tackle, this brought a powerful El Hajam header to 1-0 for the home side (9th). The cup winner's answer was not long in coming - and it came out twice!

Hakimi first hit the upper left goal triangle from an acute angle after shaking off the clumsy defending Koné (19th). A little later, Mbappé kept the overview in the penalty area - Icardo refined his back pass with a kick from the outside to make it 2-1 (21st).

After that it was a lively game with chances on both sides until the break. Mbappé Schlenzer headed field player Giraudon in the goal area out of the danger zone (24th), Navas in turn had to show a brilliant act in a volleyball hit by Ricard (35th).

Baldé comes and delivers circus action

The second section saw a PSG exercising control over long stretches, the spectators in Troyes did not see a firework of chances as in phases of the first round. Once the attacking game of the home side flared up in a curious way: the substitute Baldé made a chipball Tardieus with his back to the goal still artistically dangerous, Navas seemed defeated, but the game device spun just past the box into the end (66th).

In the closing stages, the game really picked up speed - and PSG worked up a sweat. Troyes took corners in a row, Navas had to risk head and neck especially against Tardieu (90th + 1) and Ripard (90th + 2) to hold onto the victory.
