85-second double strike: Draxler decisively involved in PSG victory
- Title : 85-second double strike: Draxler decisively involved in PSG victory
Even without Messi and Neymar, Paris St. Germain set the course for victory early on against Strasbourg. But in section two the Alsatians came up again. A dismissal then destroyed all hopes for a point win.
Even before the game it was clear that Paris would play without Messi, coach Maurizio Pochettino even put the fans off until the end of August. Neymar was also not yet fit against Strasbourg, but Icardi tied in with the appearance on matchday one against Troyes. After just two minutes, the striker nodded a Diallo flank over the poorly behaving keeper Sels into the mesh (3rd).
PSG then took full control and let the ball circulate - Hakimi's long-range hit was just a defensive leg in the way (12th). After that, however, Strasbourg, which had barely escaped relegation last season, also became bolder and dared to move forward. There was always wanted target player Ajorque, but Kimpembe just falsified decisively (15th). The 1.96 man should also cause danger in corners - and only a little later a ball bounced into the goal from Ajorque's forehead, but into his own. Mbappé had pulled the left in the penalty area and hit the striker unlucky on the head, from there the leather was deflected untenable for Sels (25th). A strong Draxler tackle paved the way for the goal.
Bitter for Strasbourg, because just when PSG seemed vulnerable defensively, the capitals showed their offensive quality - and just 85 seconds later it was even 3-0. This time the combination was reversed: goalscorer Mbappé served Draxler with a buttery cross (27th). After this intermediate sprint, the resistance of the Alsatians was of course broken and Paris returned to its old sovereignty.
Strasbourg is not giving up yet and is getting on with it
The second run almost started again with a lightning start in Paris, but Mbappé could not complete his long sprint perfectly and failed because of Sels (48th).
Defensively, Paris missed the last seriousness, again and again Strasbourg got too much space on flanks, took advantage of it twice as ice-cold and came up to 2: 3. First Gameiro headed between Kimpembe and Kehrer (53rd), then Ajorque was also there with his head (64th).
Sarabia makes the decision
Between the two goals, Mbappé had left the preliminary decision (62nd) and so the game was open again. However, Strasbourg no longer came dangerously in front of goal and decimated itself in the final phase when Djiku saw yellow-red within two minutes (79th, 81st). Only five minutes later, the substitute Sarabia Mbappés pushed great preparatory work over the line (86th).
